Why Not??
Today I had a conversation with one of my coworkers about Christianity. This guy used to be a Catholic but no longer considers himself so because he just can't make himself believe that one man (the Pope) is without fallacy. I agree with him, the bible tells us that all men have faults. He said he considers himself a Christian now but he still has questions and concerns. First he said he finds it concerning that so called "right winged Christians" have quite strong beliefs and feel as though you shouldn't have any questions of God. He said he thought God would answer any question he had and would still love him even if the question was in reference to God. I told him I thought so too. He also had a problem with mega churches that are conducting themselves more and more like the Catholic church ie more like a business. Most of all he was concerned with the messages that some churches are putting out there. I agreed with him on a lot of his points and I told him that there was nothing wrong with asking God questions. My coworker said he felt like if he had a strong personal connection with God then everything would be okay. I told him that I though he was right and that it is very important to have that personal relationship with God. He also gave me the name of a book about Christianity that he just started reading the book is called "Letters from a Skeptic" by Gregory Boyd. I'm going to buy the book and read it myself because it sounded very interesting. It's basically letters from Gregory's father on why he should believe in God; why he should be a Christian. Here's a link if you are more interested http://www.amazon.com/Letters-Skeptic-Wrestles-Questions-Christianity/dp/1564762440/sr=1-1/qid=1157072679/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6503296-8365762?ie=UTF8&s=books. I just wanted to ask you why is it that when people ask questions of Christians then they don't believe in God? Why is it that when a movie or book like the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown comes out people peg it as being Anit-Christian. I've read the book and seen the movie and it's definitely not anti-Christian but it does ask some interesting questions about Jesus and Christianity itself. Why isn't it okay to ask questions?

I think that a church is a business. It has to be to function. What if you don't have the members to keep your doors open? Do you close your doors until you do? Do you turn on one light, stop using the mic, make sure you don't go over one hour? Of course not. You open your doors when someone is in need. It doesn't matter how many people show up. Therefore it must function as a business. A pastor has to live, and if they have a family; that family must be taken care of. There are other's who work for the church, it is a full time job are you suppose to be all volunteer positions? No, I think not. If you don't take care of the business ie. invest in the community, invest in different operations (daycares, schools, counseling services, etc) than how can it live.
I say this show just a glimps of what a church goes through. Isn't a mega church spreading the word of God to the masses? Isn't that what the bible says. Spread the word to the ends of the earth. How else do you do that.
I'm a former Catholic. I fully understand how your co-worker feels. I too had many problems with the catholic church. I put my trust in God, not a man. Man is from the flesh, born with sin there is no way that a man can deliver my messages to God better than me. How ever there are messesengers from God put chosen to deliver his message. The best thing I can tell you is pray for him. His foundation for the word of God is already there. The Catholic Church just ruined the experience for him.
I agree that a person should be able to ask questions and that they should not be punished for doing so. The Lord already knows when you have questions asked or not, and and already has the answer for you.
As far as mega churches go (which we are a member of) I do think that they should have some sort of business like mentality but that mentality should NOT be at the expense of the word of GOD.
No doubt. A church should never forget the word of God. There should never be a point when that is comprimised. The church is the body of spirituality. The people of the church (it's citizens) make up the blood, bones, skin, etc. Organs are made up by the leaders of the church. The spirit keeps the body living. One can not function without the other. The body may bleed, break a bone, maybe a organ my fail. These things cause a great deal of pain and time to heal, but if the spirit leaves.... eventually the body dies. I say all that to say this, no matter how big a church is, if there is no truth to it's word it will die. And those who took advantage, those who turned people away from Gods word will be judged by our Lord and Savior.
I think I found my first one Ricky
WOW. That's all I can say about your comment Watt. That was deep! I like your analogy of the church as a human body. Boy, I think I'm going to have to ponder on that one a little more before I can even make a good comment.
Hey I''m just reading this Blog, and I don't want to be a COPYCAT, However ''What Watt ''had to say is so very very TRUE!!!!And he was just used as the Mouth piece Of God!!!!!!!!!!!
