Segregation

When you look around your neighborhood, what do you see? Is it pretty homogeneous? How about your friends? We all look at segregation like its a bad thing but aren't we just chosing segregation now? I know I live in a neighborhood with mostly all black people except for one neighbor. Of course forced segration the way it was, was horrible. But you know, if seprate but equal could have been a reality then I think I would be all for it. If we could actually seperate ourselves but still have all the luxuries that we all have now, I think it might actually be better for black people. Once we all got over the intial shock of all being together and we learned to help rather than hinder each other, I think we would be a much better people. What do you think.

I agree that our country is still in a segregated state. In my opion this is because we as people tend to want to be around those like us. Yes black people want to be around other blacks but is it not true that we (blacks) can't stand to be around some of our own. I know that I would rather hang out with a white guy who shares the same interests and values than hang out with a black guy who doesn't. Having grown up around the world and having to deal with a lot of different people I have found that it is not the color of the skin that I like rather it is the values and beliefs that people have that makes me want to hang out with them. I want my children to be able to get along with all races of people from all walks of life as long as those people are the right kind of people (I still would like for my children to marry within the race).

Seperate but equal was a nice idea but since it did not happen that way we need to first support our families, then our race and finally those other people around us. There is a lot of history that has to heal before we as americans can finally stop living seperate lives.

This is funny because I recall looking at the place I live at now and knowing I would be living there oneday.I just thought it was so nice over there, safer cleaner,ETC especailly because where We used to live was All BLACKS.Now don't get me wrong now, I thank God for the roof he had provided over Our heads but I still wanted to get over there as I used to say.It used to be mostly White people living where I'm at now,So it was better kept and everything, however I've watched it go sorta down hill over the last 10 years. They have put us ALL together in a sense but yet seems like at the same time things have went down.I think sometimes that was their goal but We should stick together instead just not caring and allowing things to just go down.Yes the forced segregation was horrible, I know because I remember when they started Busing us with the white kids, it was a mess.I thank GOD I didn't however have to face it all well really gosh not even a portion of what I know my mom/grandfather did.I agree with your last statement''Once We get over the intial shock, and my goodness the ''key'' to the entire thing is HELP rather HINDER each other,We would be much better people.
