Counseling

Why do black folks have a problem with going to get counseling? Actually I think I can answer that one myself. Most people don't like to discuss their feelings. As an adult looking back over your life, I'm sure you can pin point several different scenes in your life that have made up the big picture that encompass the person that you are now; some good, some bad. Also looking back on your childhood I'm sure you can remeber certain lessons that you learned from your parents that have shaped your who you are today. Now what I'm sure you can't see (although some of us can) are how those lessons made you have certain issues. A son watching his dad beat on his mother may have taught a young man how to treat a woman or how not to treat a woman. Or a young girl who's father was never around may always seek the comfort of a man (whether a good or bad man) or she may take that hatred out on every man she encounters. I could go on and on with scenarios like this but I think you can get the picture. My point is that under all of those outer issues are deep seeded issues that many of us are so afraid to really take a look at, that we would rather act like nothing is wrong or that it must be everyone else. Speaking to a counselors doesn't really bring up issues that you don't know you have; oh you already know about them, but the counselors is there to help you find the light in that dark closet where you've hidden all those bad scenes and lessons that you learned as a child. God puts everything in out lives for a reason; the good and the bad. All of those life lessons that you have learn have helped you become the person that you are, the counseling could help you understand why you are the person that you are. Everyone needs to understand the person that they are to move forward to become the person that God wants you to be. You can't see God's big picture for you if you still have your eyes closed.

You can't see God's big picture for you if you still have your eyes closed. - Excellent point to ponder.

Some black folk don't want help with their deep seeded issues, but then there are others who do want help but because of their spouses/parents/others who don't see there is a problem than that shackles the person in who has their eyes open. Pride and fear are two major forces that block the window of opportunities of receiving help. Black folk have had the oppression mentality long enough. As a race, we were not taught that the things we have gone through was to help someone else but 1st we must get the help we need in order to help someone else. We have been down trodden with the "don't tell" mind set long enough.

Yet other races are getting set free and then writing about their experiences and that is another stream line of revenue coming to them. We are far behind as race in the area of true deliverance. That would be because we get a little breakthrough then return to the same problems (deep seeded issues). We need to unveil the root of the problem and if it takes getting counseling - get it and move on. As a race our eyes need to be open - God is ready to heal our land but we must 1st turn from our wicked ways, seek his face and pray.

Well I'm a black folk hahaha and I think counseling is a great ideal.Iwould love to lay a a couch and vent out my feelings :)Maybe it's not that people don't want to discuss their feelings,it maybe that first they have to be able to trust the person and know thats they won't be viewed differently, meaning various things.I believe God has given us people here on Earth to talk to, the counselors ETC... you just have to know who and when to speak up.We all have issues, and yes I agree they just ASSIST you in finding the Lightin the Dark Closet, where We have hidden things.I like that because Yes We All at some time in our lives have hidden some things inside us.True everyone does need to understand the person they are and then Yes allow God to mend and transform the old you into the person He calls you to be.It may be some what scary when you first open your eyes but the Beauty of What you see through the open eyes are all God's Glory
